Tussah Silk Combed Top/Sliver (Natural) A1 Quality - 50g
A1 grade Tussah Wild Silk Combed Top/Sliver. Fiber length is approximately 6 inches (15cm).
Our Tussah is "Chinese Oak Tussah", also called "temperate tussah". The fiber is about 22 microns in diameter.
Our tussah silk is produced by a wild caterpillar that lives mainly in China, India and Korea. These feisty caterpillars have thwarted all efforts by humans to domesticate them.
Regardless of where the Antheraea pernyi silkworm lives, they eat the leaves from one oak trees.
Because these leaves contain ‘tannin’ (the same substance in tea that stains your cup), the silk is naturally a light honey-gold color.
Compare the ligher natural honey color of Tussah (right) with the golden Muga (left) in the 4th photo.

Tussah silk has a bit of ‘tooth’ so the roving is easier to spin than the Bombyx sliver. We recommend selecting Tussah silk when spinning silk for the first time.
