65 Roses® 'Islas de Rosario' - Thread, Serenity (8/2 reeled thread)

Price: $9.50

Serenity—100% Reeled Silk—8/2 silk thread;10 yards

Usually inspired by actual roses, this 65 Roses® colorway is perpetual...we continue to dye it.

We wanted to add an aqua-blue, watery colorway, but there are no naturally occuring aqua roses.  Applying a bit of creative license to our rose inspired theme, we found Islas de Rosario (Rose Islands), an archipelago off the coast of Columbia, South America, with beautiful aqua blues waters.  Click HERE to see Islas de Rosario (and why its now on my bucket list!)

65 Roses donation

“65 Roses®” is a term often used by young children with cystic fibrosis to pronounce the name of their disease.

Treenway Silks donates a minimum 10% of sales to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in honor of Andrea's angels, to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF). Since developing the 65 Roses® colorways in 2017, Treenway Silks has donated $40,000 through December 31, 2024—we appreciate your support as we work toward our 2025 goal!

T&R Serenity description

Serenity—100% Reeled Silk
--thread size is between a #5 and #3 perle
--this 2-ply thread has a bit softer twist than a typical perle thread
--each of the 2-strands is comprised of many parallel, unbroken silk filaments
--the minimal twist keeping the silk filaments together, paired with the softer ply twist, gives this silk thread the most sheen and luster of any of Treenway Silks’ threads
--can be divided (with care, as the silk filaments can separate from one another, especially in dry climates).

The silk is from the Bombyx mori silk worm, often referred to as "mulberry" silk.

10 yards (1/2 skein fits onto a standard sewing machine bobbin)

T&R Serenity Stitching tips

--smooth hands are extremely helpful—use a sugar scrub or other hand exfoliant before handling Serenity
--use a needle with a large eye
--needlepoint canvas, try tapestry 20 or 22 needle
--fabric, try chenille needle size 18 or  #1 Gold Eyed Milliners needle
--Keep your thread length no longer than 18”
--stitch going straight up and straight up as much as possible, especially if stitching on needlepoint canvas (do not drag your thread across your canvas)
--suitable for 13-mesh canvas (brick stitch) and for decorative stitches on 18-mesh canvas

About Dyeing & Washing Instructions

Hand-painted in Colorado--color fast.
We use acid dyes for all of our silk dyeing.
For variegated colorways, we "paint" the dye onto the silk.  It takes strong fingers to work the silk into the many strands.  We steam at 190 degrees for several hours.  We allow the silk to cool down overhight.
We rinse the silk until the water runs clear.

Wash instructions:  wash in cool or cold water. Let dry.  Iron, if desired, using the Silk setting on your iron.
